This chest of drawers was part of a matching set with a desk that we made for a client who wanted clean, Scandinavian mid-century inspired design. The body and drawer fronts are solid ash and the accents such as capping and handles are walnut. The drawer boxes are are veneer on birch plywood - this was done to ensure the smooth movement of the drawers through all seasons since they were designed without the need for any drawer runners. Hardwood can expand and contract due to temperature changes and can wedge drawer boxes closed if a runnerless design is preferred.

The corners of the chest’s main body are joined by a rebate with loose mortice and tenons, the dividers are mortice and tenons and the walnut capping of the top is mitred.
