This desk was part of a matching set with a chest of dawers that we made for a client who wanted clean, Scandinavian mid-century inspired design. The body and drawer fronts of the unit are solid ash and the accents such as capping and handles are walnut. The drawer boxes are are veneer on birch plywood - this was done to ensure the smooth movement of the drawers through all seasons since they were designed without the need for any drawer runners. Hardwood can expand and contract due to temperature changes and can wedge drawer boxes closed if a runnerless design is preferred.

The corners of the unit are joined by mitres, the dividers are mortice and tenons and the walnut capping of the top is mitred. The legs are joined by mortice and tenons and the angled stretcher is a half lap. The desk disassembles into 3 pieces through the use of bolts and threaded inserts.
